SARATOGA SPRINGS — What better way to wait out the end of winter than to watch guys and gals modeling the latest spring clothing at the Prevention Council‘s Saratoga Springs Fashion Fling?

Part fashion show, part gourmet luncheon, and part retail extravaganza, the fling will feature a great mix of specialty Saratoga retailers showcasing clothes, accessories, books, and other fun items both on the runway and at retail display tables. Jessica Layton of NewsChannel 13 will provide introductions and commentary.

The fun begins at 1 p.m. on April 3 at Saratoga National Golf Club. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased at www.preventioncouncil.org or by calling 581-1230. All proceeds benefit The Prevention Council’s prevention education programs.

The luncheon menu includes hors d’oeuvres of mini crab cakes, brie and pears, smoked salmon, to name a few, followed by a fabulous spring salad and grilled tenderloin medallions with a vegetable napoleon. Lunch will nicely end with French macaroons and fresh fruit.

Specialty Saratoga retailers include: Frivolous, Miss Scarlett, Spoken, Rockabella, Fusion Salon, Yellow Boutique, Violet’s and Stella’s, the Pink Paddock, Sanctuary Spa, Red Wolf, Barefoot Books, Dust Cosmetics, Piper Boutique and Cupcakes Unlimited. Many of these shops have also donated door prizes, which will be awarded at the end of the afternoon.

Guests will have the opportunity to consult spiritual advisers Sandy Menzer and Marci Ross, who will offer tarot card readings and “angel messages.”

A special treat this year will be the inclusion of male models during the fashion show, wearing attire exclusively from Saratoga National Golf Club’s Golf Shop. All paid guests will also receive a coupon for 50% off of one round of golf (a $60 value) at Saratoga National. If you’ve ever wanted to play a round on this championship course, here’s your opportunity to get out there while also supporting a great cause.

“In the current fiscal climate, funding for several of our programs has already been cut or is jeopardy of being drastically reduced,” said Executive Director Heather Kisselback. “Supporting this event helps our agency make up for some of the shortfalls in our budget. And you might just find the perfect Mother’s Day or end-of-year teacher gift while you’re enjoying the day.”

The mission of the council is to prevent and decrease underage alcohol and substance abuse, violence and delinquency, and to build family and community norms against risky behavior. The agency has worked for over 25 years to give young people the skills to choose healthy behaviors, provide families with the tools to foster positive child development, help communities build family-friendly environments, and help schools build supportive climates for students.
